Ukrainian Drones Strike Ryazan Oil Refinery in Russia, Setting Isomerization Unit Ablaze

Ukrainian long-range drones struck Russia's Ryazan oil refinery — one of Rosneft's largest facilities, with a processing capacity of roughly 17 million tonnes of crude per year — early on September 6, hitting the Isomal-2-LIN-800 isomerization unit and sparking a fire. Ukraine's General Staff confirmed the strike. The unit converts low-octane petroleum fractions into high-octane, Euro-5-compliant blending components; Ukrainian forces had previously knocked out two of the refinery's four crude processing units earlier in 2026. The strike is part of Ukraine's sustained year-long campaign against Russian refineries, pipelines, and export terminals aimed at cutting the fuel supplies and oil revenue funding Russia's war effort. Additional drone strikes were reported the same night against Rostov Oblast air defenses and other Russian cities.
