IAEA Brokers Seventh Localized Ceasefire to Repair Power Line to Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced a localized ceasefire took effect on September 5 to allow Ukrainian technicians to repair the 330-kilovolt Ferosplavna-1 power line supplying the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which lost its sole remaining offsite power connection on August 20 due to military activity north of the Dnipro River. The plant had relied on emergency diesel generators to cool its six reactors and spent fuel pools since the outage, with officials warning of a potential station blackout. Under the truce, Ukrainian crews began repairs following demining of the area, monitored by an IAEA team on site — the seventh such IAEA-brokered localized ceasefire at the plant to date.
