Ukraine Fires 334 Drones at Russia — Hits Cruise Missile Carrier and Three Shadow Fleet Tankers Near Novorossiysk

| Ukraine

In a coordinated large-scale counterstrike, Ukraine's drone forces launched approximately 334 drones targeting Russian territory overnight May 3, 2026 — one of the largest Ukrainian drone barrages of the war. Ukrainian forces struck a Russian cruise missile carrier (a warship capable of firing Kalibr missiles at Ukrainian cities) and three oil tankers from Russia's 'shadow fleet' operating near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, Krasnodar region. The shadow fleet tankers had been used to circumvent Western oil price caps and G7 insurance restrictions to fund Russia's war machine. Russia's air defenses claimed interception of 117 Ukrainian drones during the night. Ukraine's drone forces also destroyed a Pantsir-S1 air defense system in occupied Donetsk Oblast and a Tor anti-aircraft system, plus two surveillance radars (including a P-18 in occupied Zaporizhzhia Oblast) during the first 48 hours of May — removing Russian air defense nodes and enabling deeper strikes. Al Jazeera also reported Ukrainian drones struck a Russian Baltic port in a separate operation, demonstrating Ukraine's extended 1,750 km operational reach. Ukraine launched a further strike on Russia's oil infrastructure, hitting the Tuapse refinery for the fourth consecutive time in two weeks around the same period.
