During the overnight hours of May 2-3, 2026, Russia launched one of its largest combined aerial attacks: 268 strike drones (Shahed-type including jet-powered variants, Gerbera, and Italmas models) plus 1 Iskander-M ballistic missile. Ukrainian air defenses shot down or suppressed 249 of the 268 drones. The attack killed at least 4 civilians and caused significant damage across three regions. In Chornomorsk (Odesa region): a strike on the city's suburbs destroyed 35 residential buildings, killing 2 people and injuring 5. In Dnipro: 1 civilian was killed and the roof of a five-story apartment block was destroyed, with wooden beams exposed and debris scattered. In Kherson region: 1 person was killed in a separate Russian drone strike on civilian transport in the Dniprovskyi district, with a man hospitalized and an ambulance also damaged. The drones were launched from multiple directions: Kursk, Shatalovo, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and occupied Crimea (Hvardiiske and Chauda). The Iskander-M ballistic missile was directed at military infrastructure. Russia also struck Ternopil (Ars-Keramika warehouse and Orion Radio Plant) and port infrastructure in the Odesa region in separate attacks around this period.
