Cambodia Cites 1904-1907 Franco-Siamese Treaties to Reject Thai Claim to An Seh Area

Cambodian Information Minister Neth Pheaktra issued a legal rebuttal of Thailand's claim to the area where PM Anutin stood during his August 23 visit, saying sovereignty 'cannot be determined by a photograph alone.' The statement grounded Cambodia's claim to the An Seh area in the Franco-Siamese Convention of 1904, the Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1907, the associated boundary-commission records and 1:200,000-scale maps, the 2000 MOU on land boundary survey and demarcation, and Thailand's own Series L7017 1:50,000-scale map, which Cambodia says depicts the location on the Cambodian side of the line. The minister called for the dispute to be resolved through the Joint Boundary Commission mechanism rather than unilateral visits or military presence.
