US, Egyptian and Sudanese Foreign Ministers Hold Trilateral Talks in New York on Path to Peace

US President's Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos met Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and SAF-appointed Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem in New York on September 20, 2026, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, to discuss building on existing de-escalation efforts toward a sustainable political settlement. Boulos said he had a 'productive conversation' with both ministers 'about the need to urgently agree on a path to durable peace in Sudan,' adding that 'the Sudanese people are in dire need of a humanitarian truce that can lead towards an inclusive civilian dialogue and a peaceful, unified Sudan.' Abdelatty, who described the meeting as 'constructive,' reiterated Egypt's support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity and called for preserving national institutions while intensifying regional and international efforts toward a negotiated end to the war. The talks came as the US-led diplomatic quartet (with Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE) continued pushing a three-month ceasefire framework meant to enable substantive political talks.
