SAF Chief of Staff Al-Atta Vows 'Unstoppable' Offensive, Says UN Security Council and UAE Cannot Halt Army Advances

Sudanese army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Yasir al-Atta, addressing reserve troops in western Omdurman on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, said neither the UN Security Council nor the United Arab Emirates could halt the army's advances, declaring 'the Security Council will not be able to stop us, nor will the Emirates or the conspiring regional states, because we are in the right.' He said the military was preparing a major multi-pronged offensive against the RSF in the coming days, describing the RSF as a 'terrorist militia' and again accusing the UAE of arming it — a charge Abu Dhabi denies. His remarks came days after the US submitted a draft UN Security Council resolution to expand the Darfur arms embargo, including a drone ban, to all of Sudan, which Russia and China have resisted and Sudan's own UN envoy has rejected as treating the army and RSF as equivalent. In a follow-up statement reported September 2, al-Atta said army units would advance 'without stopping' in the war's next phase, accusing the RSF of ethnically targeted killings in El Geneina, El Fasher, and Blue Nile state and pledging to push toward Darfur 'to protect them from the violations of the rebel militia.'
