Nearly 20,000 Displaced in Two Days as Fighting Escalates Around Blue Nile's Bakori and Sarkam Bases

The Geissan Emergency Room, a local relief group, said on August 30, 2026 that nearly 20,000 people had been displaced over the preceding two days by escalating fighting in Sudan's Blue Nile state, after the RSF and allied SPLM-N (al-Hilu) fighters claimed to have seized the army's Bakori and Sirkam (Sarkam) bases southeast of Ed Damazin. A fresh wave of displacement hit the City 12 area of Geissan locality, scattering residents and previously displaced civilians toward Shira, Abu Qami, and Al-Hilla Al-Qadima, as well as Wad Al-Mahi locality to the east, with others sheltering in Damazin city itself. The relief group described displaced families, including children, women and the elderly, as facing dire humanitarian conditions amid acute shortages of shelter materials and basic necessities. The wave adds to more than 100,000 people already displaced in Blue Nile this year as the RSF-SPLM-N cross-border offensive, which seized Geissan on August 11 and recaptured Kurmuk on August 13, continues to push toward Ed Damazin.
