Joint Force Repels RSF Assault on Bir Saliba, West Darfur; RSF Field Commander Killed

| Sudan Conflict

The Joint Force of armed movements allied with the Sudanese army repelled an RSF attack on the strategic Bir Saliba area, roughly 30km north of el-Geneina in West Darfur state — the RSF's last stronghold in the region — on August 4, 2026. RSF operational commander for far northwestern Darfur, Major General Mahdi Adam (known as 'Jebel Moon'), was killed in the failed assault, according to the Joint Force. West Darfur governor General Bahr al-Din Adam Karama and Joint Force spokesman Major Mutawakkil Ali Wakil Abu-Ja said government-aligned forces also targeted RSF supply lines along the Chad border, destroying more than 38 RSF combat vehicles and seizing 27 others.
