RSF Razes Six Zaghawa Villages Near Tine, North Darfur, Displacing Thousands
A large RSF force attacked six Zaghawa-inhabited villages along the Ambara-Tine road near the Chad border beginning Wednesday, July 1, 2026: Qarboura, Oruwa, Um Marahik, Kourbia, Abu Leiha, and Ana Baji. RSF vehicles fired artillery through homes; Oruwa and Ana Baji were reportedly burned entirely, water wells were destroyed, and livestock looted. Survivor Issa Ibrahim, 35, told AFP dozens of RSF vehicles stormed his village of Um Marahik: 'They sent artillery through homes, they burned to the ground and people died on the street with no one to bury them.' By Friday, July 3, more than 3,500 people had been displaced from Wadi Fungo village (Um Baru locality) alone, per IOM, with thousands more fleeing toward Chad. The attacks followed days after Joint Forces gains at Abu Qamra and Kulbus, suggesting a retaliatory dynamic. The UN separately reported that more than 200 children were killed in Darfur in the first six months of 2026.
