Amnesty International: RSF Committed Crimes Against Humanity, Ethnic Cleansing in El Fasher

Amnesty International published a 200+ page report, 'City Under Siege, Children Under Fire: Rapid Support Forces' Crimes Against Humanity in North Darfur,' at a launch event in Nairobi on July 1, 2026. Based on 247 interviews (208 survivors), 89 open-source videos, and satellite imagery covering early 2024 through El Fasher's October 2025 fall, the report documents murder, forcible transfer, torture, rape, sexual slavery, enslavement, extermination, and persecution targeting the Zaghawa ethnic group, including mass executions of hundreds of people at a 57km berm network during the final RSF offensive — one survivor described seeing 'more than 1,000 dead bodies.' The report names alleged commanders including Al-Fateh Abdullah Idris ('Abu Lulu') and Maj. Gen. Gedo Hamdan Ahmed Mohamed ('Abu Shouk'). Amnesty Secretary-General Agnès Callamard called it 'a war on civilians' and 'a stain on the conscience of humanity,' urging an immediate nationwide ceasefire and an international protective force.
