Disgruntled RSF General Defects to SAF After Desert Escape from North Darfur
High-ranking RSF General Al Nour Ahmed Adam defected to the Sudanese Armed Forces after escaping RSF detention in North Darfur, a rare high-profile cross-over that delivers SAF valuable intelligence on RSF command structure in Darfur. The general fled around April 9 with approximately 50 loyal fighters in all-terrain vehicles, crossing the desert toward Donqola in northern Sudan while SAF drones reportedly engaged RSF checkpoints along the route to cover the escape. General Adam was reportedly disgruntled over being denied a senior command position despite his crucial role in the RSF's October 2025 capture and subsequent massacres at El Fasher. His defection was publicly welcomed by SAF commander Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. This marks the second significant RSF-to-SAF defection since October 2024, when RSF commander Abu Aqla Kaikal crossed over; analysts note that as SAF regains territory, RSF internal cohesion is eroding among commanders who see military defeat on the horizon.
