MSF Report: 3,396 Sexual Violence Survivors Treated in Darfur; RSF Using Rape as Weapon of War
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) released a report on March 31 documenting 3,396 survivors of sexual violence who sought treatment at MSF facilities in North and South Darfur between January 2024 and November 2025 — a figure MSF called 'only a fraction of the true scale.' Of those treated, 97% were women and girls. Survivors 'frequently and clearly' identified RSF fighters as perpetrators. MSF stated this constituted the systematic use of sexual violence as a 'weapon of war' to control civilian populations and constituted a grave violation of international humanitarian law. MSF noted that barriers to reporting — stigma, fear, geographic inaccessibility, and lack of healthcare — meant real numbers were vastly higher than documented. The report called on the international community and ICC to take urgent action to protect civilians and hold perpetrators accountable.
