Hospital Strike on Eid al-Fitr Kills 64 in Al Daein, East Darfur
On the first day of Eid al-Fitr, air and drone strikes hit El Daein Teaching Hospital in East Darfur State, killing at least 64 people including seven women and 13 children. At least 89 people were wounded, including one doctor and eight health workers. The hospital's emergency, maternity, and paediatric units were put fully out of operation. OHCHR said the perpetrators had not been identified but that both parties to the conflict use drones extensively. The attack brought the total number of people killed in attacks on healthcare facilities since the war began to over 2,000, with WHO's SSA site documenting 2,036 people killed in 213 such attacks. The timing on Eid al-Fitr drew particular international condemnation.
