Day 794: Mexican Navy Kills Armed Suspect After Gunmen on ATVs Attack Patrol Near El Recodo, Mazatlán

During the afternoon of Thursday, September 24, 2026, Mexican Navy (SEMAR) personnel conducting security patrols in the Veranos community, El Recodo district in northern Mazatlán municipality, near the highway connecting to the Picachos dam, were attacked with gunfire by armed men riding motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles. The marines returned fire; one male suspect, roughly 20-25 years old and wearing tactical camouflage, was killed by multiple gunshot wounds. Other armed individuals fled into the surrounding terrain. Naval personnel secured five long guns, eight magazines and 210 rounds of ammunition at the scene. The unidentified body was transferred to the Medical Examiner's Office (Semefo).
