Day 786: Woman Shot Dead in Hammock at Her Home in Mazatlán's Francisco I. Madero Neighborhood

During the afternoon of Thursday, September 17, 2026, a 42-year-old woman identified as Sofía was shot and killed while resting in a hammock inside her home in the Francisco I. Madero neighborhood of Mazatlán. Armed men arriving in a gray vehicle entered the residence and opened fire, hitting her at least twice — in the neck and torso. Navy personnel were first responders, followed by firefighter-paramedics who could not revive her. The case marked the eighth femicide recorded in Mazatlán that month and pushed Sinaloa's September 2026 tally of women killed to 19, already surpassing the 73 total femicides recorded across all of 2025.
