Day 785: Gunmen Throw Homemade Explosive Into Vacant House in Mazatlán's Colosio Sí Neighborhood

Around 5:00 PM on September 16, 2026, armed men stepped out of a vehicle on Sonora street near Francisco González Bocanegra avenue in Mazatlán's Colosio Sí neighborhood and threw a homemade explosive device through a window of a house, causing a loud blast that damaged the window and part of the facade. The house was unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported. Municipal police, Army and Navy personnel cordoned off the area and specialized units processed the scene, confirming it was an improvised explosive device — an escalation in tactics for a wave of arson and gun attacks that has hit Mazatlán and Culiacán in recent days.
