Day 777: Gunmen Ambush Federal Protection Force Patrol on Highway Mexico 15; Four Captured

Armed men opened fire on a Federal Protection Force (SPF) patrol conducting security operations on federal Highway Mexico 15 near Jesús María, Culiacán, on September 8, 2026. Agents repelled the attack and captured four suspects without sustaining injuries. Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch said the detainees were linked to vehicle theft and were suspected of generating violence in Culiacán and surrounding municipalities. Agents seized three firearms (two long guns, one handgun), 30 magazines, 502 cartridges, five ballistic vests, two tactical chest plates, metal spike strips (ponchallantas), and a vehicle with Texas plates reported stolen in the United States.
