Day 777: Wave of Shootings and Vehicle Fires Hits Multiple Culiacán Neighborhoods Overnight

| Sinaloa Split

Starting around 7:30 PM on September 8, 2026, near-simultaneous violent incidents were reported across at least three sectors of Culiacán: gunfire at the intersection of Avenida Patria and México 68; a vehicle rammed into a home's gate and set ablaze on Baltasar Izaguirre Rojo street in the Chapultepec neighborhood, damaging the garage; and gunfire on Rubén Martí street in the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz sector following a vehicle theft. Roughly 60 shell casings were recovered at one scene, and several homes were struck by gunfire. The state Interinstitutional Group and Mexican Army units deployed to the affected areas; Sinaloa's Public Security Secretariat said no deaths or injuries had been reported and urged residents to avoid the affected zones and rely only on official channels for information. Separately, a woman was detained in Concordia with a rifle, three magazines and 90 rounds of ammunition, and a 28-year-old man detained earlier for possessing a stolen vehicle died in state prosecutors' custody.
