Day 774: One-Year-Old Boy Among Three Killed in Armed Attack in Prados del Sur, Culiacán
Armed gunmen opened fire with high-caliber weapons on a group gathered outside a residence on Calle Mar de Coral, between Islas Mascareñas and Islas Salomón, in the Prados del Sur neighborhood of south Culiacán, at approximately 8:30 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2026. One-year-and-four-month-old Juan Alejandro was shot in the head and could not be resuscitated despite being rushed to the Red Cross; Jesús Manuel, roughly 25-30, died at the scene. Two others were seriously wounded and hospitalized. Investigators say a suspected member of the attacking group, identified as Jonathan, was shot by his own companions during the attack and died the following morning. Dozens of large-caliber shell casings were recovered. The killing adds to a total of roughly 250 children killed by gunfire in Sinaloa since the Chapitos–La Mayiza conflict began in September 2024.
