Day 753: Two Men Killed in Broad-Daylight Attack Outside Sinaloa Government Palace in Culiacán

Around 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, gunmen using automatic rifles killed two unidentified men riding in a white Nissan Versa on Avenida José Aguilar Barraza near the Sinaloa State Government Palace in downtown Culiacán. The vehicle came to rest facing the wrong way near Lázaro Cárdenas and Constitución after the attack. An IMSS employee badge was found inside the car, though it was unclear if it belonged to either victim. No arrests were reported despite a heavy police, state and military presence around the Government Palace. The killing occurred the same day Infobae reported that Sinaloa was on pace for a record homicide year alongside a forensic crisis, with the Mazatlán morgue overwhelmed by unidentified remains.
