Day 752: Two Detained in Mazatlán With 19 Rifles, 1,131 Magazines, 15,480 Rounds in Federal Sweep
A joint federal operation involving the National Guard, Army, Navy, SSPC, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and State Preventive Police — coordinated through the III Military Region and 9th Military Zone — detained two suspected Sinaloa Cartel members in Mazatlán on August 14, 2026. The bust yielded 19 long rifles (mostly AK-pattern), 1,131 magazines, 15,480 rounds of assorted-caliber ammunition and tactical equipment. Authorities said the operation was conducted 'with strict adherence to the rule of law and full respect for human rights.' It came amid a surge of federal presence in Mazatlán — over 2,600 elements deployed in less than a month — following the escalation of Chapitos–Mayos violence over control of the port since El Mayo Zambada's 2024 capture.
