ANTAC Megablockade Hits 20 States at Dawn; Mexico–Toluca Highway Among First Choked
At 07:00 on April 6, ANTAC and the Frente Nacional para el Rescate del Campo Mexicano launched the promised indefinite national highway blockade, affecting key trunk roads in at least 20 Mexican states. The Mexico–Toluca corridor was among the first to be blocked, with transporters and farmers parking vehicles across multiple lanes. The Interior Ministry (Gobernación) stated that negotiations were underway and that the government had disbursed more than 3.4 billion pesos in support for the transport and agricultural sectors in 2026, calling the protest unjustified. No resolution or concessions were announced by end of day. The blockade constituted the largest coordinated transport disruption of Sheinbaum's presidency, raising concerns about supply chain disruptions and food price spikes ahead of the post-Semana Santa market reopening. The Secretariat of Economy monitored potential impacts on supply chains connected to nearshoring operations along affected corridors.
