Transporters and Farmers Confirm Indefinite National Highway Megablockade Starting April 6
The Asociación Nacional de Transportistas (ANTAC) and the Frente Nacional para el Rescate del Campo Mexicano (FNRCM) announced an indefinite national highway blockade to begin at 07:00 on Monday, April 6, 2026. Key demands include federal action against insecurity, extortion, and robbery on Mexican highways — which organizations say have paralyzed rural transport — and elimination of the IEPS fuel surcharge on diesel applied to carriers and agricultural machinery operators. ANTAC leaders declared that dialogue with the government had produced no results: 'No me sirve el diálogo, no hay resultados.' The blockade was coordinated to coincide with the end of Semana Santa when highway traffic volume peaks. The Interior Ministry (Gobernación) issued a statement claiming more than 3.4 billion pesos had already been allocated to agriculture and transport support in 2026, but failed to prevent the announcement. Analysts noted the mobilization as the most significant domestic labor-agricultural protest of Sheinbaum's presidency.
