ANTAC Transporters Pause Megablockade After 'Responsible Agreement' with State Officials

| Sheinbaum (2024–)

After more than 30 hours of disruption across 20 states, the Asociación Nacional de Transportistas (ANTAC) reached a 'responsible agreement' (acuerdo responsable) with state government representatives and agreed to temporarily suspend the highway megablockade that had begun on April 6. ANTAC leaders warned the pause was provisional, not a resolution, stating they 'cannot guarantee the integrity, freedom, nor the life of those who are protesting' amid reports of government crackdowns in three states. At her mañanera, Sheinbaum attributed the mobilization to 'three or four leaders' and characterized the overall participation as smaller than anticipated. Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez confirmed dialogue was continuing. ANTAC said new actions could be called in coming days if core demands — action against highway extortion, elimination of the IEPS diesel surcharge, and IMSS-Bienestar access for transport workers — were not addressed. El Financiero reported that ANTAC accused authorities of using physical violence against protesters in at least three states.
