AIFA Records 164,525 Semana Santa Passengers in 1,233 Flights; Sheinbaum Celebrates 'Vuelos al 100%'
During the Semana Santa holiday week, the Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Ángeles (AIFA) — the flagship airport built at Santa Lucía military base under AMLO — recorded 164,525 passengers across 1,233 commercial flights, marking a significant capacity milestone for the airport that was widely criticized at its 2022 opening for low passenger volumes. President Sheinbaum shared photos of crowded terminal scenes on social media, saying 'vuelos al 100%' ('flights at 100%'). However, critics and social media users began alleging the photos were AI-generated due to perceived visual anomalies in the crowd imagery. The controversy intensified through the Easter weekend, with Sheinbaum dismissing the allegations as political attacks. No mañanera was held on April 2 (Jueves Santo / Holy Thursday) or April 3 (Viernes Santo / Good Friday) as the presidency suspended press conferences for the national holiday.
