Sheinbaum Reports Mexico Achieves Diesel Self-Sufficiency, Covers 80% of Gasoline Needs Domestically

| Sheinbaum (2024–)

At her April 1 mañanera, President Sheinbaum announced that Mexico has reached self-sufficiency in diesel production and now covers approximately 80% of its national gasoline needs domestically, citing output from the Dos Bocas (Olmeca) refinery in Tabasco. The announcement came despite the March 24, 2026 explosion and oil spill at Dos Bocas, which triggered a federal emergency response and FGR investigation. Sheinbaum also announced a 15,000-peso support payment to Veracruz fishermen affected by the earlier oil spill via the BienPesca program, and confirmed the price cap on diesel for transport carriers at 28.28 pesos per liter would continue despite rising global oil prices.
