Saudi Arabia Reportedly Proposes Two-Week Ceasefire to Houthis via Oman

Saudi Arabia asked Oman to deliver a proposal to Houthi leadership in Sanaa for a two-week ceasefire and the opening of direct talks, according to Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar (Hezbollah-affiliated), relayed by the Jerusalem Post and other outlets on Sept 18, 2026. Under the reported plan, the first phase would address the Houthis' humanitarian demands, with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement by the end of the truce period. The proposal followed Saudi consultations with the US, Egypt, Pakistan and Oman. Separately, US officials reportedly held talks with senior Houthi representatives at the US Embassy in Muscat the same weekend. Saudi Arabia did not officially confirm the report, and the Houthis had not publicly responded as of publication.
