IS-Sahel Kills 6 Niger Soldiers in Sanama, Tillabéri Region

Islamic State – Wilayat Sahel (IS-Sahel) claimed responsibility for an attack on Niger Army positions in Sanama, Tillabéri Region, killing 6 soldiers. The attack falls within the ongoing IS-Sahel pressure campaign against military positions in western Niger's Liptako-Gourma zone. Tillabéri has become one of the deadliest conflict zones in the central Sahel, with nearly 1,300 killed in the region in the preceding months according to ACLED. The attack coincides with the day analysts were warning about IS-Sahel's expanding operations in Tillabéri following the US forces' departure from Niger Air Base 101 and 201.
