El Chapo Extradited to the United States

El Chapo was extradited from Ciudad Juárez to New York via DEA helicopter and aircraft, following Mexico's Supreme Court approval of the extradition in November 2016. He faced trial in the Eastern District of New York (Brooklyn) for drug trafficking, murder conspiracy, and money laundering charges. His extradition removed a major political liability from Mexico but also removed him from Mexican judicial accountability.
