DRC, Rwanda Hold Sixth Joint Security Coordination Mechanism Meeting in Geneva

August 12-13, 2026 — The DRC, Rwanda, United States, Qatar, Togo (as African Union mediator), and the AU Commission convened the sixth Joint Security Coordination Mechanism (JSCM) meeting in Geneva to review implementation of the Washington Accords. The two sides agreed to advance two initiatives to strengthen monitoring and verification on the ground, and the DRC presented its Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) plan for the FDLR, fielding questions from JSCM members. The meeting follows friction in late July over the pace of the EJVM+ verification mechanism and builds on the Doha framework's ceasefire and comprehensive-agreement track with the AFC/M23.
