DRC Resumes Prisoner Exchange Under Doha Mechanism; Rwanda Reports Refugee Repatriation

August 5-7, 2026 — The DRC released 15 M23-affiliated prisoners on August 6-7 — the first exchange under the Doha mechanism since April — against a total of 477 agreed by an April 28 deadline that had been repeatedly missed due to internal DRC political obstacles. Separately, Rwanda reported receiving roughly 302 repatriated refugees from the DRC on August 5, part of a gradual repatriation process aligned with the Washington Accords framework.
