Beginning August 31, 2026, the junta launched a counteroffensive to retake the Zinbon-area outpost it lost to the KIA-KPDF coalition the day before, deploying four ground columns of roughly 200 troops each — three east of the Ayeyarwady River and one near Thingaw In on the western side — backed by continuous airstrikes.
