KIA-KPDF Intercept Junta Offensive Near Momeik, Northern Shan State

| Myanmar

Beginning August 10-11, 2026, roughly 150 SAC troops attempted to advance from junta-held downtown Momeik toward Kachin Independence Army (KIA)-controlled Mabein Township, pushing into territory held by KIA Battalion 34 (Brigade 4) near Upper and Lower Nyaungni villages. Joint KIA and Kachin People's Defence Force (KPDF) units intercepted the column, killing at least one junta soldier and pinning down troops from Light Infantry Battalion 348, including a captain. The junta responded by deploying Mi-35 attack helicopters and a Y-12 transport aircraft to fly heavy airstrikes in support of its stalled column, which also targeted flood-affected areas nearby.
