SAC Aircraft, Suicide Drones, and Artillery Strike Karenni State — Baptist Pastor Killed in Demoso, Hpruso, and Nanmekhon Area Attacks
Junta aircraft, suicide drones, and artillery struck civilian areas in Demoso, Hpruso, and Nanmekhon areas of Karenni (Kayah) State in late June 6–7, 2026, killing at least one Baptist pastor and injuring three civilians. The attacks targeted areas administered by the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) and allied resistance forces. The Baptist pastor was killed during the aerial bombardment — the latest in a series of attacks on religious clergy documented in Myanmar's civil war, following the killing of two monks in the Seik Hkun Monastery airstrike (April 13, 2026), a monk killed at the Shwebo IDP camp (April 7), and a monk killed in a Bhamo monastery strike (May 7). SAC suicide drones also struck Lay Taung Town in Ramree Township, Rakhine State on June 6. Karenni State has been under sustained SAC aerial campaign throughout 2026, with the KNDF and allied Karenni forces maintaining control of most rural territory while the junta uses its air power advantage against civilian areas it cannot hold on the ground. The KNDF and Karenni Army have successfully encircled the junta garrison in Loikaw — the state capital — which has been reduced to airlifts for resupply for over a year.
