SAC Jets Bomb IDP Displacement Camp in Shwebo Township — Monk Killed, Two Women Injured
Myanmar junta fighter jets conducted seven bombing runs against a displacement camp in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region on April 7, killing a Buddhist monk who had been teaching displaced children at the camp school and severely injuring two women. The attack struck a site housing war refugees — civilians who had fled earlier SAC operations and airstrikes elsewhere in Sagaing Region. Shwebo Township is within the junta's designated 'security operations' zone across Sagaing; the targeting of a displacement shelter continued a documented SAC pattern of attacking IDP camps and civilian refuge sites. Over 3.6 million people have been internally displaced in Myanmar since the 2021 coup, the majority sheltering in informal camps and jungle settlements across Sagaing, Magway, and Kachin regions.
