Junta Executes 4 Political Prisoners — First Executions in Decades

| Myanmar

Myanmar's ruling junta executed four political prisoners: Ko Jimmy (activist and NLD member), Phyo Zeya Thaw (NLD parliamentarian and rapper), Hla Myo Aung, and Aung Thura Zaw. This was the first execution in Myanmar in over three decades. All four had been convicted by military tribunals for terrorism-related charges. The executions drew worldwide condemnation including from ASEAN, EU, US, and UN. Amnesty International called it an 'act of barbarism.'
