Deadliest Day of Protest Crackdowns — 38 Killed
March 3, 2021 became the deadliest single day of the anti-coup protests as security forces opened fire on demonstrators in Yangon, Mandalay, Myeik, Monywa, and other cities, killing at least 38 people. The crackdowns used live ammunition, rubber bullets, and tear gas. By April 2021, over 700 civilians had been killed in protest crackdowns. UN Special Envoy Christine Schraner Burgener warned of an 'implosion' if the coup was not reversed.
