reform
Women Gain Full Voting Rights
Mexico granted women full political rights including the vote and eligibility for national office under President Adolfo Ruiz Cortines. Mexico was relatively late among Latin American nations — Argentina granted women's suffrage in 1947. The reform expanded the PRI's electoral base; women, organized through CNOP, became a key corporatist sector that PRI mobilized through official women's organizations.
