Cartel Seizes 9th Military Zone Housing; Soldiers' Families Taken Hostage

In one of the most audacious elements of the cartel's response, armed gunmen seized the residential housing area of the Novena Zona Militar (9th Military Zone) barracks, taking families of soldiers hostage — including women and children. Eight soldiers were captured as hostages. The seizure of military dependents served as direct leverage on troops attempting to maintain the detention. One soldier was seized from the barracks in front of his children.
