51 Prisoners Escape Aguaruto Federal Penitentiary
In a coordinated move, prisoners inside Culiacán's Aguaruto Federal Penitentiary staged a riot and stripped five guards of their weapons. Fifty-one inmates escaped in the chaos, with only 2 quickly recaptured. The prison break was widely interpreted as a coordinated distraction and resupply of armed personnel for the cartel. The C4 state command-and-control headquarters was also attacked during the same timeframe.
