Mexican Congress Ratifies Treaty at Querétaro
Mexico's interim government under Manuel de la Peña y Peña, relocated from US-occupied Mexico City to Querétaro, ratified the amended treaty. The vote was 51-35 in the Chamber of Deputies and 33-4 in the Senate — narrower than the US vote, reflecting deep Mexican anguish over the territorial losses. Extreme nationalists denounced it as treasonous capitulation. Ratifications were formally exchanged on May 30, ending the war.
