Consultation of 1835 — Texan Provisional Government Formed

| Mexico-US Wars

Texan delegates meeting at San Felipe de Austin established a provisional government, named Henry Smith as provisional governor, and Sam Houston as commander-in-chief of the Texas army. The Consultation initially declined to declare independence but issued a Declaration of Causes justifying armed resistance. It marked the institutional birth of the Texas Revolution's governing structure.
