IDF Kills Retired PA Colonel Fathi Khazem in Jenin Home Raid, Says He Attacked Soldier With Knife

Israeli soldiers of the Paratroopers Brigade carrying out an arrest raid on a home in Jenin overnight Thursday into Friday, August 21, 2026, shot and killed 58-year-old Fathi Khazem, a retired colonel in the Palestinian National Security Forces. The IDF said Khazem attacked a soldier with a knife during the raid and that troops returned fire, with no Israeli casualties. Palestinian health authorities said the army did not release Khazem's body to his family and prevented emergency medical services from reaching the house. Khazem was the father of a gunman who killed three Israelis in a 2022 Tel Aviv attack, and of a second son, Abdul Rahman Khazem, killed by Israeli forces during a 2022 raid on the Jenin refugee camp.
