UK, Australia and Canada Call Israel's Closure of World Central Kitchen Strike Probe 'Shameful'

| Israel-Palestine

The UK, Australia and Canada issued a joint statement on August 21, 2026 calling 'shameful' Israel's decision, announced two days earlier on World Humanitarian Day, not to pursue criminal investigations into the April 2024 Israeli drone strike that killed seven World Central Kitchen aid workers — three British nationals, one dual US-Canadian citizen, one Pole, one Australian and one Palestinian. The Israeli military closed the case, characterizing the strike as a 'tragic mistake.' The three allied governments said the decision was 'both too little, and too late' and that victims' families 'deserve justice and accountability.' Poland's foreign ministry separately called the closure 'very disappointing' and summoned Israel's ambassador; Australia also summoned Israel's ambassador in Canberra.
