Israeli Settler Indicted for ATV Attack on Palestinian Shepherd and Sheep Near al-Tuwani

Israeli authorities filed an indictment on August 20, 2026 against settler Yedidia Kaufman on charges of animal abuse and assault with a racist motive, after he allegedly drove an ATV into a flock of Palestinian-owned sheep near al-Tuwani in the South Hebron Hills, killing a pregnant animal, and assaulted the Palestinian shepherd tending the flock. The case is one of the rare instances of an Israeli settler facing formal charges for violence against Palestinians or their property, amid human rights groups' documentation that only about 3% of settler violence cases result in conviction.
