Iran Proposes Seven-Day Plan to Reopen Strait of Hormuz, End War

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, after Qatar-mediated talks with US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the UN, presented a plan built on the defunct June 17 memorandum of understanding: a seven-day cessation of hostilities across the region (including Lebanon), release of at least $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, lifting of oil sanctions and an end to the US naval blockade, with Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz on day seven of the truce. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it would be wrong to call the talks a breakthrough, and the administration has not committed to reviving the June MoU's terms.
