UN Experts Urge Iran to Halt Executions of Remaining Isfahan Protesters

| Iran History

Independent UN human rights experts called on Iran to immediately halt the execution of 10 remaining men convicted in the Alikhani Square case tied to the January 8, 2026 Isfahan protests, warning that relatives of some defendants had already been summoned for 'final visits.' The appeal followed the July 19 execution of two other men from the same case, Erfan Esfandiari and Gol-Mohammad Mohammadi, which the experts strongly condemned. The 12 men were arrested after protests that led to the deaths of four security force members; the experts renewed calls for a moratorium on the death penalty in Iran.
