Two January-Uprising Protesters Executed in Isfahan Alikhani Square Case

Erfan Esfandiari, 18, and Gol-Mohammad Mohammadi, a 23-year-old Afghan national, were executed before dawn in Isfahan after being convicted in the 'Alikhani Square case' tied to the January 8, 2026 protests, in which four security personnel were killed. Judicial authorities accused the pair of involvement in attacks on law enforcement and destruction of public property; 59 people were tried in the case, with 12 sentenced to death. The UN's Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran strongly condemned the executions as part of a broader surge in post-uprising executions.
