2022 Uprising Prisoner Aref Khoshkar Executed in Karaj

Aref Khoshkar, 28, a political prisoner arrested on November 11, 2022 during protests in Tehran's Fallah neighborhood amid the Mahsa Amini 'Woman, Life, Freedom' uprising, was executed at Ghezel Hessar Prison in Karaj. Rights groups say he was subjected to torture following his arrest. His execution came alongside that of a second prisoner from the Isfahan uprising, part of a broader surge in political executions that human rights monitors say has reached levels not seen since the 1980s, with at least 47 political prisoners killed since the February 2026 conflict began, according to the Norway-based group Iran Human Rights.
